WhiteLite Productions: INTERVIEW W/ LE CASTLE VANIA
Interview With Le Castle Vania
If you’re a fan of electro, chances are you’re familiar with Le Castle Vania. We caught up with him this week and picked his brain on the dance scene in Atlanta, what interview question he’s sick of being asked, and why muscle milk is on his rider!
Catch him while he makes his rounds with Identity Festival (the closest stop to LA will be the San Diego date on 8/18), and grab his latest release (that he was kind enough to give away to his fans for free)!
WL: You’re currently on tour with Identity Festival. How’s it been so far? Any funny stories?
LCV: It’s been fucking awesome! It’s my second year on tour with them, been really amazing and a lot of fun so far. Umm actually this morning in Atlanta a local radio station made a sign giving away free Skrillex and Le Castle Vania haircuts.. LOL! There’s a picture of it on my Facebook!
WL: In previous interviews, you’ve mentioned that you started getting into music production and DJing when you were 16. Who could we find in your music library back then?
LCV: Oh man, back then…. Dom and Roland, RAM Trilogy, Ed Rush & Optical, Tech Itch, The Prodigy, Crystal Method…
WL: You’re originally from Atlanta, which happens to be ID Fest’s next stop. What’s the dance music scene like there? Has it changed since you lived there?
LCV: The scene is exploding over here. You know it’s funny that the trap scene is catching because it started here, been around for a LONG time! But yeah the dance scene has really grown, I think a lot of that has shown over the past five years during my FUCK YESSS parties that I throw every month…
WL: The last release on your label, Always Never, was your original “The Light” earlier this year. Are there any upcoming releases for the label?
LCV: YES! I just released a free song this week called “Play Loud” which has gotten a crazy response… I’m really excited about it. Up next we have these new guys Mad Owl coming out with an EP, called Glacier. It’s an awesome track, I have myself and the homies Modek doing a remix for the EP as well.
WL: There must be certain questions that you get asked countless times during interviews. Is there one that you’ve grown tired of hearing?
LCV: OH MY GOD. Yes. “Where did your name come from?” People ALWAYS ask that question!
WL: If you weren’t DJing and producing music, what would you be doing?
LCV: Uh…. producing and DJing but not successfully? HA! I can’t really imagine doing anything else…
WL: Anything funny or unconventional on your rider?
LCV: Muscle Milk! I’m trying to gain weight. Oh, and for twelve models to be waiting for me in the hotel shower. Just kidding…. they’d be there anyway!
WL: You’re working on your full-length album right now. When is that expected to drop? Will it follow suit with the traditional “Le Castle Vania” sound?
LCV: There’s no official release date yet, it’s coming though! It’s definitely Le Castle Vania, just a big expansion upon my style. I’m putting a lot of time into it, working with some live instrumentation and string sections, vocalists, etc.
WL: Aside from the album and completion of ID Fest, what else do you have in store for this year? Anything else you’d like to tell us?
LCV: Go grab my free track “PLAY LOUD!” I just gave it away on my website this week. I really love giving away free stuff, and it’s been really cool to see the response it’s been getting. Definitely looking forward to pushing more free music in the future. Oh, and I also have a remix for Vitalic coming up some time in the future…
WL: Thank you!
LCV: Thanks Guys! Love y’all!
